All You've Got Is Time
Happy June!
This past week I met up with an old friend. It seriously made my heart so happy! We were trying to figure out when we saw each other last and it had literally been YEARS. Despite not seeing each other for literal years, we jumped right back into it like no time had past. It was truly the best day ever!
Haley and I had grown up together carpooling to gymnastics. We really haven’t seen each other much at all in our adult life. As I said earlier, we jumped right back in and it was a magical day. We started the day off by hiking the Wisdom Tree/Cahuenga Peak and then ended the day by having dinner at The Butcher’s Daughter on Abbot Kinney. Haley and her friend Miranda are doing a cross-country road trip and they’re doing all sorts of fun activities and bucket-list worthy stops. One of their spontaneous moments was getting tattoos! Both of their tattoos are written in their mom’s handwriting. Miranda’s says “Forever Young” and Haley’s says “All You’ve Got is Time.” Both of those saying really stuck with me and I love the meaning being the message. We all have so much time whether we realize it or not.
We all seem to want to rush, rush, rush. We want to be the first one finished. Think back to middle school or high school, no one ever wanted to be the last one to turn in their test. But did the order of who finished when actually matter? No. Not at all. The person who finished first isn’t necessarily the smartest and the person who finished last most likely took their time to carefully review all their answers. Why do we always feel like we are running out of time to become all that we want to be? There’s no time limit on making our dreams come true. Your direction is much more important than your speed.
We are not all going to graduate at the same time. We won’t get married at the same time. We won’t have kids at the same time. We won’t be promoted at our job at the same time. We won't achieve our dreams at the same time. That’s okay! We are all on our own unique timeline. We are all experiencing our own journey to success. Sometimes our journey is going to experience some twists and turns. I wanted to share some “Famous Failures.” Although, I really don’t even like that they’re called “failures.” But here we go -
Walt Disney: Fired from a newspaper company because he “lacked creativity” and had no “original ideas.”
Michael Jordan: Cut from his high school basketball team.
Oprah Winfrey: Demoted from her job as a news anchor and was told she just “wasn’t fit for television.”
The Beatles: Rejected from a major studio and they were told that they would have “no future in show business.”
Lady Gaga: Dropped out of music school was was declined by countless labels before becoming a success.
Let’s not rush our progress. There’s no rush to become who you are meant to be. Embrace the journey and be grateful for how far you’ve come. All you've got is time. Everything always works out in the end. “Being grateful for what you have will get you what you want.” ✨🦋
